Vailo Oleksandr Volodymyrovych, born in 1954 (20.08), graduated from the Faculty of Geology of KSU named after T.G. Shevchenko (now KNU named after T. Shevchenko) with the specialty “geological survey, search and exploration of mineral deposits” and received the qualification of “geological engineer” (1972-1977). While studying at the Faculty of Geology, he graduated from the two-year Department of Journalism of the Faculty of Social Professions of the University; was a part-time correspondent of the widely circulated newspaper “Kyiv University”, was published.

He has been working in his specialty since 1977. During this time, he worked: on assignment in the Kyiv Geology Trust, which in 1979 was reorganized into the Production Geological Association “Pivnichukrgeology” (1977-1981), where he carried out a geological survey on a scale of 1:50,000 (Kyiv Geophysical Complex Expedition , 1977-79) and prospecting with an assessment of the quality of gemstone raw materials (Kyivsk GRE, 1979-81; in 1980, he passed the qualification improvement course “Geology, search and exploration of deposits of colored stones” at MGRI, Moscow. ); then – at the Research Enterprise (1981-1985) and at the Department of Metallurgy (MD) of the Institute of Geochemistry and Mineral Physics of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR, which was later renamed the Institute of Geochemistry, Mineralogy and Ore Formation of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (1985-1996); after the reorganization of the VM – at the State Research Center of Environmental Radiogeochemistry of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (DNC RNS), which later became the Institute of Environmental Geochemistry of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (1996 – until now).

During 1982-1991, he carried out metallogenic research within the framework of the Interdepartmental Interregional Program “Precambrian Iron Ore Formations of the European Part of the USSR”, as well as the budgetary topic “Evolution of iron accumulation in the Precambrian, determination of the scale of development of iron-siliceous formations for the purpose of predictive assessment of the iron ore base in promising areas of the USSR”, in particular, he studied the geology, petrogenesis and ore-bearing of metamorphic iron-siliceous and other ore-bearing formations of the Central and Southern Pobuzhzhia, associated with the granulite complexes of the Belotserkiv-Odesa zone, as well as the little-studied Frunziv zone.

During 1991-2011, within the framework of the 5-year budget scientific topics “Metallogeny of linear and domed structures of the Ukrainian shield, geological and geochemical models of formation and criteria for searching for deposits of gold and rare metals” (1991-1995), “Development of deposit forecasting models uranium, gold and diamonds in different geodynamic conditions” (1995-2000), “Scientific rationale for increasing the competitiveness of the mineral and raw material base of the uranium mining industry of Ukraine” (2001-2005), “Building up the mineral and raw material base of nuclear energy and evaluation impact of the mining and processing industry on the environment” (2002-2006) and “Assessment of the prospects for the discovery of new types of uranium deposits in the geological structures of the Ukrainian Shield” (2007-2001) engaged in research in the Pobuzka region of ore-bearing rocks and graphite ore concentrations, rare and precious metals; gold discoveries in Mayske and gold discoveries in the Savransky ore field to determine their prospects; was engaged in the study of patterns of placement of uranium deposits with the aim of forecasting new deposits of various genetic types in Ukraine, and also assessed the degree of influence of uranium deposits on the environment.

In 1991, he passed the qualification improvement course “Geology, prospecting, exploration and technological methods of processing gold-bearing deposits” at MGRI (Moscow).
The accumulated material, experience and a sufficient number of scientific publications on the results of the research made it possible to prepare and defend a candidate’s thesis on the topic “Iron-siliceous formations of the Frunziv zone of the southwestern slope of the Ukrainian shield” (1994) at the Department of Metallogeny. Received the scientific degree “candidate of geological and mineralogical sciences” with the specialty “geology, search and exploration of ore and non-ore deposits; metallogeny”; was transferred from the position of “junior researcher” to the position of “researcher” in the Department of Geochemistry of Ore Formation (1995), which, after the reorganization of the Department of Metallogeny of the National Academy of Sciences of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the creation of the Institute of Environmental Geochemistry, was called the Department of Geochemistry of Uranium and Related Elements (1996).

In 2003, he worked in the Department of Uranium and Related Elements as a research associate, and later, according to a competition, he was transferred to the position of “senior research associate” (09. 2003).

Along with the active scientific activity of Vailo O.V. he also performed significant scientific and organizational work – he worked as a member of the expert commission of the Special Council for the Defense of Dissertations; an opponent in the defense of candidate theses; a member of the examination commission for accepting candidate examinations in a specialty; occasionally temporarily performed the duties of the head of the Department and the duties of the scientific secretary of the Institute. In 2005, I was appointed scientific secretary of the Department of Geochemistry of Uranium and Related Elements.
In 2006, Oleksandr Volodymyrovych was awarded the academic title of “senior researcher” in the specialty “geology of metallic and non-metallic minerals”.

In 2008, on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and “for a significant personal contribution to the development of national science”, he was awarded the “Honorary Certificate of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the Central Committee of the PFS of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.”

From 2009 to March 2014, he worked as the Scientific Secretary of the Institute. During this time, he also temporarily performed the duties of the scientific secretary of the Department of Nuclear Physics and Energy of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. For fruitful cooperation and active assistance in the improvement of the educational and scientific process of the Department of Ecology of the Institute of Environmental Safety of NAU, he was awarded the “Thank you”, and later – for active assistance in the scientific and organizational activities of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and for many years of fruitful work, a significant personal contribution to the development of metallogenic research of the mineral and raw material base of Ukraine and on the occasion of the 60th anniversary was awarded the “Honorary Certificate of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine”.
