On March 17, 2026, a delegation of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, led by Academician-Secretary of the Department of Nuclear Physics and Energy of the NAS of Ukraine Ihor Garkushya and with the participation of Vice-President of the NAS of Ukraine Vyacheslav Bogdanov, paid a working visit to the State Institution “Institute of Environmental Geochemistry of the NAS of Ukraine” (SI “IGNS NAS of Ukraine”) – the leading scientific center of Ukraine for research into geochemical, radiogeochemical, environmental and applied problems, nuclear-physical technologies and mineral raw materials for nuclear energy, which are of great importance for national security, sustainable environmental development and scientific support of the nuclear fuel cycle.
The purpose of the visit was to comprehensively familiarize ourselves with the infrastructure of the institution, modern results of fundamental and applied research, key scientific areas, innovative developments and projects, as well as to identify strategic problems and prospects that require further scientific, organizational and financial assistance at the level of the NAS of Ukraine.
During the ceremonial reception, the Director of the State Institute of Nuclear and Geophysical Sciences of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Yuriy Zabulonov, Deputy Directors, Scientific Secretary and leading scientists presented to the delegation the structure of the Institute’s scientific potential, its staff and key scientific units that carry out fundamental and applied research in the following areas: geochemistry, radiogeochemistry, mineral raw materials for nuclear energy, technogenic and environmental safety, scientific support of the nuclear fuel cycle, nuclear physical technologies, mathematical modeling of natural and technogenic processes, instrument making for environmental and radiation safety.
