TECHNICAL WATERS OF KRYVBAS TAILWATER

Abstract. One of the most dangerous sources of water basin pollution are enrichment and ore preparation factories and associated tailings ponds. The article provides a description of tailings ponds of iron ore mining and processing plants. It shows what areas they occupy, the volumes of enrichment waste stored in them, and the features of the formation of technical waters in which the enrichment process takes place. It is shown that tailings pond waters are formed from process waters of enrichment factories, quarry, mine, filtration waters of drainage systems, and industrial wastewaters of plants. The volumes and chemical composition of quarry, mine waters that were discharged into tailings ponds in different years were analyzed, due to which the technical waters of tailings ponds have increased mineralization.Due to the absence of a screening bed in tailings ponds, mineralized waters “leak” into underground aquifers.Filtration flows formed at the locations of tailings dams flow in the direction of rivers, changing the chemical composition of the latter.

Keywords: tailings dams, quarry waters, mine waters, mineralization
