ECOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF MONITORING OF LANDFILLS IN RECREATIONAL ZONE
Abstract. The paper analyzes the ecological state of landfills located within recreational zones, using the example of the Bronytsky landfill (Lviv region). The study was carried out using an integrated approach: physicochemical parameters were combined with chemical analyses, bioindication methods and spatial mapping. It was found that the temperature of the waste mass during the study fluctuated within +25…+32 °C, which contributed to the intensive migration of pollutants. In soil samples from the zone of direct impact, the Pb concentration reached 42.5 mg/kg, Cd — 1.2 mg/kg, which exceeds the background values by 3–4 times. The Zn content in soil samples was 180 mg/kg versus 60 mg/kg in the control zone.Bioindicative studies revealed a 28% decrease in vegetation species diversity, and the number of heterotrophic bacteria decreased 2.1 times compared to control areas.According to the results of GIS analysis, local “hot spots” of pollution are traced in the southern sector of the landfill at a distance of up to 350 m from the boundary. The practical significance of the study lies in the formulation of recommendations for the creation of a buffer zone with a radius of at least 300 m, the implementation of reclamation measures using phytosanitary crops and the introduction of systematic monitoring at least twice a year.
Keywords: landfill, recreational area, environmental monitoring, soil contamination, bioindicators, reclamation.
